- The Power (El Poder). It's not often that you hear calypso and reggae associated with gospel music (speaking for myself, anyway). Those rhythms are always joyfully hard to resist, which makes for an interesting collection on this CD.

KANK

THE POWER

KANK MUSIC

Well done to ace producer/songwriter Kenny Wallace who - with radio-friendly productions like this - will build a reputation that is highly deserved. With a Caribbean-flavour throughout, freshness, quality, freedom and believability shine brightly on this praise-project recorded in Trinidad, West Indies and Boston, USA. This is a most unusual but rewarding concept enlisting the help of quality vocalists and instrumentalists. Paraded thus is an illustrious blend of goodtime toe-tapping and spiritual challenge. The free-wheeling production shows innovative studio skills and virtuosity. This most appealing offering is a landmark-set of West Indies P&W. The new songs are not around any central theme- just good time stuff set to a Caribbean dance-style or an aspiring anthem- whatever suits the context. Produced for radio and participation, the happy-go-lucky project captures the genre from the starting line to the finishing post with gospel passion. The sessioners sing with controlled abandonment a wide spectrum of material of progressive Kenny Wallace repertoire. Let’s hope that this 5-star CD gains a solid foothold and sees longevity. It is deserved because this is a quality collection, a classic if ever I heard one!
